Technical Application's Market
Task 1:
Company: Johnsen’s Chemical Company
Product: Smoke Eliminator oil additive
Company: DAWG
Product: Stormwattles
Task 2:
Name: Galveston Houston Association for Smog Prevention (GHASP)
Description: GHASP's mission is to persuade government and corporate officials to prevent smog. They also want to be a credible advocate for clean air in Houston.
Number of people/ companies involved: 16 companies
Task 3:
A photocatalyst oxidizes air quality contaminants making them harmless which helps purify the atmosphere. When a photocatalyst oxidizes with air quality contaminants, water and carbon dioxide form. These compounds are harmless to the environment. The most effective photocatalyst is titanium dioxide. When titanium dioxide is exposed to light, it jumps up from the surface and two highly reactive substances are formed. These two substances, hydroxide radicals (OH) and superoxide anions ( O 2 -1), allow the oxidation of airborne VOCs and toxic organic matter into carbon dioxide and water at room temperature with UV or near-UV light source. It doesn’t need special energy, it just uses clean energy in ordinary life. The process is called photocatalysis. The plan our team proposed was to put these photocatalysts in concrete of buildings so that when smog forms in the atmosphere, these photocatalysts will take care of them through the process of photocatalysis.
Task 4:
We sent a message to two different companies trying to get them to evaluate our product. Unfortunately, we did not receive a reply. Therefore, we’ve posted our attempts of reaching manufacturers of these companies.

I am a student in Dearborn , MI. I'm emailing your company to see if it was possible that you evaluate my group's product. We are trying to make a product that will eliminate smog for good. Our product is called "The smog eater". We will place it inside the concrete of factories. It is made from Titanium Dioxide (TiO2). I have attached a design of our product to this email. We also have a document about smog. If you could, please take a look at it and write me back about your thoughts at (Email N/A). Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Ali B.
