ISTF Project # 07-1734 was developed in response to the 2007-2008 Internet Science and Technology Fair The Super Sonic Blaster NCT: Transportation Sub-catagory: Aircraft/ Spacecraft Avionics Specific Technology Application: De-icing Plane Wings; Sonic Waves School: Dearborn Center for Mathematics, Science, and Technology; Dearborn, Michigan Hundreds of people a year are killed in ice-related airline accidents. For years, the airline industries used the same process for deicing wings,causing costly delays.We propose to use a sonic wave emitter to detach ice from the wings of the aircraft, saving timeand money. The product would be a post-factory addition to the plane, so planes in use now can be upgraded with this new technology. |
