Sixth Grade - Keyboarding (Required six week course) Suggested Preparation: none Course Number: 501601 Course Description: This is an exploratory class. Students are introduced to keyboarding. Proper keyboarding technique, rather than speed, is stressed. Students are also introduced to keyboarding skills, computer hardware components, word processing, Internet skills, and ethical issues. |
Middle School Media Literacy (Elective one semester course) Suggested Preparation: none Course Number: 501711, 501811 This class will enhance literacy skills while giving students the opportunity to practice techniques that will enable students to adapt and use technology as it changes. Students will use technology as a tool for reading and writing across the curriculum. Students will research using the Internet, create PowerPoint presentations and other computer generated projects. This class is aligned with the International Standards for Technology Education (ISTE) and Michigan Curriculum Framework Technology Standards. It is also aligned with the Michigan Curriculum Framework 7th and 8th grade ELA GLCEs |
Middle School Multimedia Exploration– (Elective 1 Semester course) Suggested Preparation: Computer Applications Course Number: 501710, 501810 Course Description: This is an elective, introductory course for designing multimedia presentations. Projects will be created using integrated software. Ethical and current technological issues will be addressed. This course is offered at the second semester of 7th grade or during the 8th grade. |
Computer Applications (Required one semester course) Suggested Preparation: none - may be taken as an elective during 7th or 8th grade; or during the 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade Course Number: MS 501700, 501800, HS 616190 Course Description: This course included keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheet, database, graphics, presentation and data retrieval. Students will use various technology tools create computer-generated projects and explore technology related careers. Content standards are based on the Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCE) and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS). It meets the requirements for the State of Michigan Certification of Eighth Grade Technology Literacy. |
Multimedia Presentations (Elective 1 Semester) Suggested Preparation: Computer Applications - may be taken in the 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade Course Number: 616200 Course Description: High School Multimedia is an elective, introductory course for designing multimedia presentations. Projects will be created using integrated software. Ethical and current technological issues will be addressed. Multimedia is suggested preparation for Intro to Web Page Design. |
Introduction to Web Page Design (Elective, one semester course, also offered at MBCC) Suggested Preparation: Computer Applications or approved equivalent, Multimedia HS or MS Course Number: 616626, 716626
Course Description: After a short history of the Internet, the class explores Websites to plan a well-designed and well-functioning site. The class teaches web page basics and explores the behind the scenes language of every web page (html). Students will learn to use the a web page editor, such as Dreamweaver, while constructing web pages that include graphics and animation created through software such as Flash, Freehand and Fireworks. Students will construct, edit, and maintain various web pages related to curricular content areas and personal interests. |
Foundations of Web Page Design (Pilate, Elective, one semester course, only offered at MBCC) Suggested Preparation: Intro to Web Page Design 616626 or 716626 Course Number: 716627 - 726627
Course Description:. This is a one-hour, year-long course that builds on skills introduced in the Intro to Web Page Design course. |
Advanced Web Page Design (Elective, one year course, only offered at MBCC) Suggested Preparation: Computer Applications or approved equivalent, Multimedia HS or MS, Introduction to Web Page Design Course Number: 716630, 726630 Course Description: This course focuses on career preparation skills. Students will develop proficiencies achieved in Intro to Web Page Design. They will create professional web designs projects that apply more challenging activities to the skills gained through the earlier course. This course will develop such essential skill areas such as project management, collaboration, research, communication, design, and product/process evaluation using professional web page creation tools.

The Curriculum Council has approved the addition of a middle school course equivalent to High School Computer Applications 616190 for the purpose of meeting the district high school graduation requirement at the middle school level. This goes into effect beginning fall of 2006 (class of 2011).
Additionally, students completing Middle School Computer Applications or its equivalent will be certified as technology literate to the state of Michigan as required by NCLB legislation.
Requirements stipulate a grade of C (75%) or better.
All equivalent options are listed here, with the new option in bold.
Middle School:
- Computer Applications 501700 and 501800
- Applications of Technology 508802 (formerly called 8th grade Tech Ed)
- Woodworth Laptop Program: Requirements stipulate participation during the sixth grade school year with approval of the program teacher(s).
High School:
